Immigration News

Keep informed on immigration news to understand ongoing changes and potential immigration reform. The provisional waiver and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are examples of new procedures and programs that immigrants need to fully understand before pursuing. MILLA LAW will guide clients through complex immigration changes.

Know Your Rights

Although the first two months of the Trump presidency have been filled with confusion and unpredictability, and even hostility toward immigrant communities, one thing is certain - now more than ever it is important to know your rights. Everyone living in the United States has certain rights protected under the United States Constitution, including undocumented immigrants.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is an organization committed to helping immigrants. The attorneys at Milla & Associates, LLC are experienced immigration attorneys and members of AILA, providing comprehensive immigration services, including removal (“deportation”) defense, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), asylum, U visas, provisional waivers and other hardship waivers, applications for permanent resident status (“green card”), and citizenship.

AILA has created “Know Your Rights” flyers to provide crucial information in the event of an encounter with ICE officers at home, at work, or in a public place. We understand how frightening the thought of an encounter with ICE can be, not to mention an actual encounter. Therefore, it is very important to know how to handle such a situation before it happens.

You do have rights. Please print and read the AILA flyers, and contact Milla & Associates if you want to learn more about your rights and possible eligibility for immigration benefits and relief.

The Provisional Waiver

March 4, 2013 marked the first day that immigrant visa applicants could file provisional waivers for unlawful presence. Under the prior procedure, individuals had to leave the U.S. before applying for the waiver, thus living abroad (and likely apart) from U.S. citizen family. Although the process just started in March, and we are waiting to see how the system is fully implemented, there is cause for optimism.

  • Excellent immigration lawyer!

“I hired attorney Robert Milla to file for my papers here in Chicago. I waited for over 20 years to apply for my green card. Overall, the service was outstanding. He took the time to answer all my questions, he was honest about what to expect and there were no hidden charges for his services. I paid one flat fee for his services and I did not have to pay everything upfront. I recommend him for immigration services and I have recommended one friend and my cousin and they both had the same experience that I did. Result: Application for adjustment of status to permanent resident (“green card”) approved”

  • Great Team!

“Robert and his assistant Maria have done a great job for my marriage based green card application. The case went smoothly and got approved easily. Thank You!”

  • Excellent Service Better Attorney

“Robert made sure I understood everything that was going on ad answered all my questions to the best of his knowledge. Before going to Robert for my immigration status, I looked around but other attorneys were not nearly as insightful or helpful as Robert. Robert always made sure that I was prepared for everything that I was going to through. For the interview he prepared me so well that I was not nervous when talking to the officers. Robert made sure I was aware of all the possible outcomes when I acquired his services. Robert made sure that I had the best experience possible for the trials that I was going to face with the immigration process. Result: Form I-751 Petition with waiver of joint filing (good faith marriage that ended in divorce) approved”

  • Very satisfied, i have other petitions too, the fight is not ...

“At first i was curious of what Lawyers (in general) do to make their income and i wasn't impressed until i see the result, that is just being me (Marine Vet). I learned that he is half Filipino, but that didn't change my opinion about lawyers even if he is a son of a fellow Marine Vet. With his high caliber of knowledge in/on immigration law, he walks and talks with the mission on his every foot steps. I highly recommend him to every Filipino and Military Veterans. I have been petitioning my other siblings ever since my father passed away and i will have to call him again to save my day to bring my family here in USA just like what my father wants.”

  • AMAZING DOWN TO EARTH PROFESSIONAL

“My wife Luiza and I were considering filing our marriage petition on our own, but after careful consideration decided to hire an attorney. We were referred to Robert and could have have been more pleased. It was a stressful time for both of us as our petition progressed, and Robert did an excellent job of explaining the process. Robert was friendly, calming, and knowledgeable. Having worked in the immigration field for over 5 years, I was very impressed with Robert's demeanor and ability to connect with Luiza and I. We could not thank him enough, and will be recommending him to any of our network contacts. Thanks again, Robert! Ben and Luiza”

  • The Best Lawyer Ever!

“I had problems bringing my wife back to US. Couple different lawyers promised to help but just wasted my money and time. Robert Milla told me upfront what we need to do and finally my wife is back. The Best Lawyer Ever! Result: Hardship waiver application approved (misrepresentation) and immigrant visa granted for permanent resident status (“green card”)”

  • David was very sweet and we saw that they really wanted to help we didn’t make us feel less of a person we were treated with respect and understanding.

“My name is Katrina and my husband is Alfonso we were coming back from Mexico after seeing our family for the first time in over 16 years. In our arrival back to Chicago my husband was detained and was taken to a room leaving our 2 daughters and myself with no answers no information nothing, for 2& half hours waiting, that I can say was a very scary and upsetting time for us. Once we came together again they just gave us a paper saying we had to appear at immigration and had no idea what they needed or what to do we were in the dark. I looked up lawyers and found who I can call my family David Mucci and Robert Milla they worked with us told us what we had todo also stood by our side every step of the way answered every question and concerns we had. David was very sweet and we saw that they really wanted to help we didn’t make us feel less of a person we were treated with respect and understanding. I would recommend them to anyone who is ever in a situation like ours because I know that they will give 120% , we went to our immigration date and left with a great result we had everything they needed and more and my husband was ok to travel again it was the best feeling ever to leave knowing everything is ok now. I can’t thank them enough for there hard work and dedication to my family David was an awesome and amazing layer and I would call him to be by our side again and again .”

  • Thanks to Robert’s expertise, we are very happy campers now, ...

“We were referred to Mr. Milla by our previous attorney, who felt that our case had ‘hit the wall.’ In our opinion, R. Milla was the best thing that happened to our case! After over three years filled with nothing but frustration, we’ve asked for Robert’s help. Our case was based on marriage to US citizen and had some roadblocks along the way, but thanks to Robert’s expertise, we are very happy campers now, planning our first vacation abroad!”

  • Highly recommended!

“My wife and I used Robert Milla as our attorney to file for my wife's green card (through marriage). He was careful, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive (much better than a previous immigration attorney we hired for a different matter). Everything went smoothly with our application and interview, and my wife now has her green card! Highly recommended!”
