Immigration News

Keep informed on immigration news to understand ongoing changes and potential immigration reform. The provisional waiver and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are examples of new procedures and programs that immigrants need to fully understand before pursuing. MILLA LAW will guide clients through complex immigration changes.

Know Your Rights

Although the first two months of the Trump presidency have been filled with confusion and unpredictability, and even hostility toward immigrant communities, one thing is certain - now more than ever it is important to know your rights. Everyone living in the United States has certain rights protected under the United States Constitution, including undocumented immigrants.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is an organization committed to helping immigrants. The attorneys at Milla & Associates, LLC are experienced immigration attorneys and members of AILA, providing comprehensive immigration services, including removal (“deportation”) defense, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), asylum, U visas, provisional waivers and other hardship waivers, applications for permanent resident status (“green card”), and citizenship.

AILA has created “Know Your Rights” flyers to provide crucial information in the event of an encounter with ICE officers at home, at work, or in a public place. We understand how frightening the thought of an encounter with ICE can be, not to mention an actual encounter. Therefore, it is very important to know how to handle such a situation before it happens.

You do have rights. Please print and read the AILA flyers, and contact Milla & Associates if you want to learn more about your rights and possible eligibility for immigration benefits and relief.

The Provisional Waiver

March 4, 2013 marked the first day that immigrant visa applicants could file provisional waivers for unlawful presence. Under the prior procedure, individuals had to leave the U.S. before applying for the waiver, thus living abroad (and likely apart) from U.S. citizen family. Although the process just started in March, and we are waiting to see how the system is fully implemented, there is cause for optimism.

  • Robert helped us file the waiver and it was approved today

“My husband and I had a very complicated I601 and I212 waiver case and had to hire an attorney no matter what. With Robert’s guidance and expertise we were able to put together a very strong argument as to why my husband couldn’t live in Costa Rica and why he needed me with him. Robert helped us file the waiver and it was approved today, November 21st 2013!!!”

It was a very complicated case and I had consulted a lot of attorneys in Chicago who were just not that confident in proceeding with my case. Then I met Robert and his knowledge and determination showed me light when I was almost about to give up. He was confident and Knowledgeable and did a meticulous job with my case especially when I had very less time to apply. I'm so relieved and happy that I got my green card within a week of the interview. Mr Robert is an amazing, humble and extremely knowledgeable attorney. He gives a lot of attention to detail. I'll never forget that he helped me when I was most in need of help. It was easy to work with Robert and legal assistant Maria. They made the process very smooth and kept me informed throughout the process. I couldn't have asked for a more knowledgeable, friendly, and courteous attorney. I appreciate His genuineness and humbleness. • Complicated N400 case!

“I found Milla & Associates through Avvo as he had great ratings and reviews by previous clients. I had a fairly complicated case of immigration for naturalization N400) through a spouse as I had been out of the country for very large chunks of time. Robert was an excellent guide in terms of how to approach the case and what documents to include/exclude in order to make my case stronger. He was thorough with his research and very well acquainted with the whole process. Despite my super complicated case, he put it forward in such a way that it was a smooth approval. He made our immigration journey stress free and having him next to me at my interview made me feel confident since he is very competent! I highly highly recommend him for any immigration law cases”
