Immigration News

Keep informed on immigration news to understand ongoing changes and potential immigration reform. The provisional waiver and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) are examples of new procedures and programs that immigrants need to fully understand before pursuing. MILLA LAW will guide clients through complex immigration changes.

Know Your Rights

Although the first two months of the Trump presidency have been filled with confusion and unpredictability, and even hostility toward immigrant communities, one thing is certain - now more than ever it is important to know your rights. Everyone living in the United States has certain rights protected under the United States Constitution, including undocumented immigrants.

The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) is an organization committed to helping immigrants. The attorneys at Milla & Associates, LLC are experienced immigration attorneys and members of AILA, providing comprehensive immigration services, including removal (“deportation”) defense, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA), asylum, U visas, provisional waivers and other hardship waivers, applications for permanent resident status (“green card”), and citizenship.

AILA has created “Know Your Rights” flyers to provide crucial information in the event of an encounter with ICE officers at home, at work, or in a public place. We understand how frightening the thought of an encounter with ICE can be, not to mention an actual encounter. Therefore, it is very important to know how to handle such a situation before it happens.

You do have rights. Please print and read the AILA flyers, and contact Milla & Associates if you want to learn more about your rights and possible eligibility for immigration benefits and relief.

The Provisional Waiver

March 4, 2013 marked the first day that immigrant visa applicants could file provisional waivers for unlawful presence. Under the prior procedure, individuals had to leave the U.S. before applying for the waiver, thus living abroad (and likely apart) from U.S. citizen family. Although the process just started in March, and we are waiting to see how the system is fully implemented, there is cause for optimism.

  • Excellent Lawyer!!

“It was a great opportunity for having Robert Milla as my lawyer in adjusting my immigration status. I highly recommend him!! I consulted few lawyers before but when the first time I met Robert, I felt so comfortable and decided to hire him right away. I am really thankful and very satisfied with his services. Until now I still can't believe that it's not even a week after the interview, I got my Green Card so quickly! I will definitely continue my business with him until I get my citizenship and to help out my family to get here in the US. And also his assistant, Maria did a great job on helping me and answering all my questions regarding my case.”

  • The Best Lawyer

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank Atty. Robert Milla, Ms. Sylvia and the rest of the staff of Milla Law firm. The team was of great help in processing my papers and documents, from the application of my Green Card until the application of my U.S. Citizenship. Not to mention how patient Mr. Robert Milla was when answering my questions and paying attention into knotting all the loose ends to make sure that everything goes well for me to achieve the outcome I was aiming for. I would definitely recommend Robert Milla Law Firm not only for his compassion and empathetic demeanor in relating to his clients but also because of his undeniable skills in handling cases in immigration. His assistants are also commendable for being so helpful and attentive. Until now I'm still overwhelmed that I immediately got the schedule of my Oath Taking Ceremony few days after my interview for the application of my U.S. Citizenship. I have no regrets in seeking legal help and advice from this office, and I will definitely hire their service for the petition of my family.”

  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Amazing service and very good to work with!

“I am a US citizen. In 2017 June I planned to file for my mother’s permanent residency. At that time my mother was in US on B2 ( visitor visa). I googled for best immigration attorney in Chicago -Milla & Associates popped up! Let me tell you, Robert and his team lived up to the reviews!!! We started with talking to Robert and he provided hours worth of advise to file permanent residency for my mother. Robert was very patient and answered all our questions and spotted an issue with our case right away. He gave us the option to file myself or to go via him. I went with option of filing myself hoping the issue he spotted won’t become a trouble. Even after deciding to file myself, I had a few follow up questions which he answered over the phone. 4 months later we got a NOID( notice of intent to deny) for the same reason Robert spotted in the first place. We hired him for Respone to NOID. It was such a stressful time preparing and providing supporting documents for the rebuttal response within 30 days. Robert and his team guided what docs needed to be prepared and answered our questions promptly, and was ready to help with any queries and follow up questions. Robert prepared a very strong rebuttal response to the NOID and sent on time. During the period of waiting for an answer from USCIS, he promptly answered my concerns on renewing EAD for my mother. Robert always had a very specific, accurate and clear answer to any queries. And many months later we received an RFE for response to NOID( which in itself is a BIG relief) as NOID was off the plate and USCIS was giving us one more chance. Robert and his team again stepped up to the challenge and gave very specific detailed guidance to prepare the right set of documents and verified and sent them on time. And in September we got the best news we were praying and hoping to hear for the last 2 years, my mother’s Permanent Residency is approved!!! We are very grateful to God and thankful to Robert and his team! We highly recommend Milla and Associates!!! Sincerely, Anna and Dan H.”

  • Great attorney and a great human being!

“Robert is one of the best and most trustworthy attorneys I have ever met or worked with. What separates Robert from others is his commitment to winning and his willingness to fight for you, regardless of how hard it might get or how long it takes. He does not use his law degree or the severity of a case to intimidate you or, unlike some, he does not use fear as a way of getting you to hire him. Instead, you can sense from the get-go that he does this as a matter of calling: he wants to help people win their immigration battles because it is the right thing to do. He is down to earth, relatable, yet very effective. His ability to use language seamlessly to drive a point home was quite remarkable and refreshing to see. He is tactful, but does not shy away from stating the facts aggressively and in a manner that makes the arguments stick. This is not something many attorneys know how to do. He was also very responsive and very sensitive to avoid misunderstandings in any regard. He asked and listened to the feedback and was not focused on anything else but to get the job done--which is both rare and extraordinary. He was also very flexible with payments and the entire process. Robert is a down to earth, caring guy and a very, very competent attorney who will take care of you. We hope to work with him again in the future and would strongly recommend him to you, as well.”

  • Robert, he was calm, supportive and had a lot of knowledge ...

“My husband applied for my green card and we prepared the documents on our own, but unfortunately I got an RFE for the same documents which we had already submitted. So we thought of hiring a good lawyer for our case, I called up a few lawyers and explained them my case to get 1 free initial consultation, out of the ones we called, I really liked Robert, he was calm, supportive and had a lot of knowledge on such cases. I quickly decided that I would go with him for my case. We met him the next day and discussed our case in detail, soon after we got a list of documents that were needed by his office, we promptly replied, he prepared our case again , we had dew meetings in between and finally my case was approved, He also helped a lot with our interview preparation and also came with us to the interview venue , where he spent more than 2 hours with us explaining the process, he also appeared with us in the interview and was a great support. I finally cleared the interview under his expert guidance. I would definitely recommend him to my friends.”
